Behind the Camera

Two local cable television segments are honored with Emmy nominations.

Local television creates a way for the community to share ideas, connect with neighbors and grow together. The folks at Suburban Community Channels have been providing the means for these connections in White Bear Lake and the surrounding area for 30 years, and their hard work and wide range of programming has not escaped the notice of groups outside the immediate area. Last fall, two segments were nominated for awards as part of the annual Upper Midwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences Emmy Awards. “The Women of the White Bear Lake Police Department” takes a closer look at the six women on the force, and was nominated in the Interview/Discussion category. A segment from “Local Image—World’s Longest Ice Cream Sundae,” created in the summer of 2013, was nominated in the Community Events category. Neither segment won the highest prize, but the people at SCC are proud of the work they have done.
