Blades of Glory

Four tips to make sure your lawn looks beautiful in the spring.

There’s a chill in the air, so we turned to our friends at Letourneau Landscaping to get four tips on how to prepare your lawn so it will be green and lush after waking up from the winter slumber.

  1. Keep your grass at 2–2.5 inches in the fall. Any longer and your lawn may develop diseases; any shorter and it’ll limit the lawn’s ability to store nutrients, leaving it dehydrated when spring arrives.
  2. Remove leaves and debris from the lawn; piled-up debris will encourage mold growth.
  3. Keep watering your lawn until the first hard frost, as the grass needs an inch of water every two weeks.
  4. Around Halloween, fertilize the lawn with a high-phosphorus fertilizer.
