The morning after a rainfall, Julie Orloske was at her home in White Bear Lake, gazing out the window. It was an ordinary scene, but something about it caught her eye. Looking out on her neighbors’ yard, she noticed the sunshine cast a shimmer through the raindrops that had collected on the leaves of one of their plants. So she grabbed her camera, a Canon 70D, and took a shot.
The result was this stunning photograph, which took first place in our Nature & Wildlife category. Orloske, a technology specialist for Washington County, dedicates much of her free time to the art of photography. “I always try to capture and see the beauty of all things through the lens of my camera,” she says. “It is also a way for me to relax, not think and practice mindfulness.”
