This year, out of 2,900 works judged, 12 different pieces and 11 students from Central Middle School earned top recognition at the Scholastic Art Awards.
One of the students recognized this year was Jessica Person, who won a Silver Key at the event. “My favorite class is art,” she says, “and I feel great when other people see and compliment my work.”
The students put countless hours into their projects. “We work on the projects every other day in art class, then some students work on their projects at home, too,” says Molly Vadnais, art teacher at Central Middle School.
The five students who won either Gold or Silver Key awards had their artwork displayed at the University of Minnesota’s Regis Center for the Arts in February.
