If you’re looking for something fun to do on the Fourth of July, celebrate the 50th year of Manitou Days and attend its fireworks display. The fireworks “are shot off on a barge, which is anchored 900 feet from shore,” says Dick Galena, the chair of the White Bear Lake Fireworks Committee.
The show is always a big hit; the numbers speak for themselves. “This is the largest viewed event in the White Bear Lake area,” Galena says. “There are different vantage points, so you probably have a viewing audience of 25,000 people.” About 300 boats will be able to anchor in the bay to watch the fireworks. “All these boats motor in and it’s really a spectacular sight, just to see all these boats with their lights on,” Galena says.
Along with the fireworks, there will be a variety of other activities. “There will be four fighter planes doing a flyover of White Bear Lake,” Galena says. “This starts at about 8:30 p.m.” Live music will be performed by Shoreview Northern Lights Variety Band in West Park from 8 to 10 p.m. Food and beverage vendors will be available throughout the park.
“The public is invited to have picnics in the park,” Galena says. So bring along your lawn chairs or blankets, and grab a seat to celebrate 50 Years of Fun in the Sun this Fourth of July.
