New White Bear Lake Shops Bring Style Downtown

Upsy-Daisy and Frank Murphy Fashions bring an extra dose of style downtown.

Looking to give your wardrobe a little zip? Check out downtown White Bear Lake’s new and very stylish additions.

Upsy-Daisy, an occasional shop owned by Danielle Rode, opened in November. “We wanted a quaint downtown community because we felt it was a good fit for our merchandise,” explains Rode.

If charm is what Rode was going for, the hand-painted vintage furniture and repurposed antique jewelry she makes and sells in the shop have it galore. The store also sells smaller goods made primarily by Minnesota artists and designers, including goat’s milk soap and soy candles.

Meanwhile, Frank Murphy Fashions has been reincarnated in downtown White Bear Lake. The store was an iconic St. Paul spot in the mid-20th century, and owner Krista Wolter bought the brand and brought it to town in November.

Known as a destination boutique for women’s high-fashion pieces, Wolter and her daughter Alexandra have maintained the Frank Murphy legacy. “People have had amazing memories about Frank Murphy for decades,” says Samantha Liepins, Frank Murphy’s fashion director and buyer. “We all wanted to be a part of that.”
