Best Breakfast/Brunch
Key’s Café & Bakery
Family-owned and operated, Key’s Café & Bakery is known for its legendary breakfasts. Owner Celine Carlson has been working at the café since her mom, Barbara Hunn, started the restaurant 41 years ago. “[My mom] taught us how to cook, run a business and, most importantly, how to treat employees and customers,” she says. But when it comes to the most important meal of the day, customers can’t get enough of the Italian hash. Between that, the cinnamon French toast and the eggs Benedict—you’ll feel like you’ve died and gone to breakfast heaven. 2208 Fourth St., White Bear Lake; 651.426.2885.

Though the hours can be challenging and the work can be fairly physical, it’s the interaction with customers that Santiago enjoys the most. But the question remains—what is White Bear Lake’s best bartender’s drink of choice? “Personally, I prefer wine or craft beer. But on a warm summer night, I’ve been known to sip on a Bombay Sapphire gin and tonic with a lemon twist,” he says.
