The Willow Lane Walking Club is taking another lap this summer.
After a successful first summer, the “Willow Walkers” will be taking another lap. The club, which was initiated in 2013 as part of the Willow Lane Elementary summer extended day program for children ages 5–11, encourages children to get out walking by offering incentives like pins and bracelets. Staff members map out assorted routes from the school and create a chart for walkers to keep track of their distances. The children set a goal to walk 26.2 miles, the length of a typical marathon, and last summer, several of the 46 children involved met or surpassed that goal.
