First Presbyterian Celebrates More Than a Century of Sales

First Presbyterian Church rummage sale
First Presbyterian Church holds their 115th rummage sale.

For the 115th year of their 155 years serving the White Bear area, First Presbyterian Church in White Bear Lake will be holding a spring rummage sale. Good quality clothing, small appliances, books, linens, shoes, purses, tools, household items, jewelry, children’s toys and office supplies will be offered at bargain prices.

This year, for the first time, an assortment of hand-crafted items will also be sold. Talented members and friends have been hard at work for months crafting their donations.

In 2018, $3,500 in proceeds from the sale was distributed to local charities. In 2017, more than $2,500, about half the sale’s proceeds, was presented to Solid Ground in White Bear Lake. Solid Ground is an organization that houses and provides a helping hand to those working their way out of poverty. Designated mission projects receive 100 percent of the sale’s profits.

Norma Lowrie, of White Bear Lake, started the rummage sale jewelry department twenty years ago, organizing and pricing items. Her son Bill, an online antique dealer, has helped identify valuable pieces among the donated items. Great finds have included a nickel silver belt buckle with faux turquoise stones which sold for $60 and an onyx and diamond ring sold for $95. Other valuable pieces were two diamond rings, two cameos and two watches which were purchased for only $100 each. Fantastic bargains can be found at this sale!
