White Bear Lake Area High School fans know that a football game isn’t really a football game without the talented and enthusiastic White Bear Lake Varsity Cheer Team leading the crowd. This group of 25 girls is participating in more than just Friday night games—in October, they won the MCAA State Cheer-Off for the sixth time since 2004. The team competed in three categories: timeout cheer, game situation and school song. Co-captain Bailie Sherrick, along with Maddi Galloway and Tiffany Wallace, all seniors, made the All-State Cheer Team. Six wins in 10 years is no accident; the girls work hard from the beginning of the summer through February.
Being part of the cheer team also includes getting good grades and giving back with community service. Head coach Heather Wahlstrand, an alumna of White Bear Lake High School and cheer team, deems the best part of coaching to be “watching the girls succeed and grow in confidence.”
