White Bear Lake is home to a celebrity who has been featured in People, the Washington Post and several London news outlets, in addition to numerous local print outlets and national television spots. This White Bear resident boasts 14.4 thousand Instagram followers. However, among all of this attention, Tula notices none of it. In fact, she just wants to go to the park.
Four years ago, now 17-year-old Susie Kixmoeller adopted Tula the “brown dog” from Second Chance Rescue in White Bear Lake. “Susie has always loved taking photos,” says Susie’s mother, Kim Otness, and when they took Tula to the dog park, Susie would try to sneak a photo of the dogs playing. Her presence, however, would turn the dogs’ attention to her rather than playing.
So Susie fitted her GoPro camera onto Tula, and the response to the footage has been huge. “It’s taken on a life of its own,” Kim says. The Instagram page (Canine Happy Hour) is a full family project, and they dream of having a book published with all of Tula’s rambunctious moments with her friends, new and old. The goal now is to have Tula’s time in the spotlight to benefit dogs at Second Chance.
