The abundance of habitat and wildlife at Tamarack Nature Center is perfect fodder for Cynthia Hickman, an avid birder who’s been taking photographs as a hobby for 15 years. “I can spend hours outdoors taking photos,” says Hickman. “It’s very relaxing and therapeutic.”
Last spring, after winter finally relented, Hickman “stood very quietly at the edge of the cattails” and snapped this photo using her Nikon D80 camera with an 80-200 telephoto lens. “The red-winged blackbird is one of my favorite birds to capture on camera,” says Hickman. “I tend to surround myself in nature to capture a great moment on camera.”
