Tracey Gobran Lund founded Summit Pilates after many years of instructing Pilates and barre in the Minneapolis-St. Paul area; she started practicing Pilates herself about 15 years ago. As a long-distance runner, she noticed she felt good when she was regularly practicing Pilates, much worse when she took it out of her routine. So, armed with her passion for fitness and her desire to provide quality service in a personal studio setting, Lund opened her new studio in downtown White Bear Lake last spring.
Reformer Pilates classes are low-impact, all-body workouts that involve developing lean muscle mass. Barre classes are basically “Pilates standing up,” she says, adding a little bit more of a cardio component. But Lund is more than the average Pilates and barre instructor: she also does a lot of physical rehab work. Often, half of her day consists of working with people with bad backs, knee or hip replacements and shoulder injuries.
Who are Summit Pilates’ classes right for? Anyone and everyone, says Lund. Summit Pilates offers training from four different instructors that meet the needs of all fitness levels. “There is absolutely no demographic,” Lund says. “It really ranges in age. The youngest [person] I’ve had was 4, and the oldest is literally 100 years old. These classes can apply to everyone.”
