The annual Vadnais Heights Easter Egg Hunt in Community Park is almost as old as the city itself. People of all ages come together to create this event that captures the season.
Featuring prize eggs, the Easter Bunny and more, this event is as fun as ever. For Brigid Nault, Vadnais Heights recreation supervisor, the event continually becomes more popular.
“The City does have a strong tradition of doing special events, [and the Easter Egg Hunt] is a very popular one,” Nault says. “I think that’s the fun thing about this community: It holds onto its traditions.”
The egg search is divided into five age groups, ranging from 2 and under through 10–12. However, not just children participate in this event: Senior citizens help craft treat bags for each age zone, students from the National Honor Society work alongside members of the White Bear Lake Ambassadors and Lions in volunteering, and parents accompany their children.
“It’s just fun to look at the different age groups, and everybody’s excited,” Nault says.
In this timeless occasion, each child is a winner. There are hundreds of eggs placed in the park; some of these eggs are unique and can be exchanged for a prize. At least 75 of these coveted eggs are hidden alongside the other plastic eggs, giving each child ample opportunity to find them.
Each child will take home the carefully packaged treat bag holding goodies, such as candy and an ice cream token from Culver’s. For Nault, the ability for each child to walk away with something is her favorite aspect of the event. “Everybody who comes gets something,” she says. “I’m sure kids will have memories for a long time of the event.”
