Asked why a golf tournament was chosen for the annual fundraiser, Nancy Roth of the White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation (WBLAEF) says, “Golf is very popular around the area, so it seemed to be a good idea.” Proof she was on to something: The tournament has been very successful and going strong for 16 years.
The WBLAEF Golf Tournament helps the foundation align with the organization’s mission statement: to enhance the White Bear Lake Area School District’s ability to provide excellence in education for all students.
On average, 140 golfers spend the day on the course having fun and making memories. “It feels very much like a family community,” says Roth. “For example, we’ve had a foursome of ladies golf every year since the event started.”
This year’s event will be June 29 at Indian Hills Golf Club, which Kathy Cochrane of the WBLAEF says is a very golfer-friendly course. The tournament is run as a best-ball scramble, meaning that individual holes count instead of an overall par. Golfers can participate as singles or as a team of four.
