You’ve heard of Santa on his sleigh, but what about Santa on skates? For the past five Decembers, each year more than 75 White Bear Lake kids and their parents have been heading down to White Bear Lake Sports Center for the Santa Skate, which is an afternoon of skating, holiday games, crafts, face painting, treats and music from disc jockey Steve Joyze. The fun begins at 1 p.m. on December 20; don’t dawdle, as the activities end at 3 p.m. The $5 charge per person covers some of the event’s most popular activities, including limbo out on the ice, a Santa beanbag toss, various new games and a holiday craft station for the kids.
“Some of the kids will wrap up their craft and give it to their parents for Christmas,” says Missy Johnson, secretary at the Sports Center and leader of this year’s event. Concessions and door prizes will also be available, which means treats and goodies to go home with—and an early Christmas present for everyone.
Who knows? You may even see the jolly old elf himself.
