In his latest book, Martha—a girl who hates green beans—sets out to rescue her parents, who have been kidnapped by a gang of bean swaggers. “Although I've always loved to eat beans myself, I was a very picky eater as a child, and that may have been the inspiration for the story,” LaRochelle says. $17. Available at Lake Country Booksellers, Red Balloon Bookshop, Barnes and Noble, and on Amazon.com.

Barb Parent
She may be better known as the mayor of Willernie, but as a storyteller at heart, Barb Parent has just come out with her second book, Journey’s Lost and Found; Parent’s first book, Journey’s Middle, won first place in the Midwest Book Awards for young adult fiction. The second book in Sommerhjem’s Journey series follows characters Greer and Meryl’s adventurous journey to deliver the oppgave ringe to the capital. $19.95–$29.95.
