BEAR’ly Open events benefit a good cause.

Winter events in White Bear Lake benefit a good cause.
Last year's BEAR'ly Open event included ice golf, Winter Carnival Royalty, trophies for donations and a very worthy cause.

Rather than putting their game on ice for the winter, golfers can take it to the ice at the White Bear Lake BEAR’ly Open, an official event of the St. Paul Winter Carnival that celebrates the sport with a few fun winter twists.

Golf novices and seasoned players will head to the frozen White Bear Lake, where eighteen holes will be plowed and drilled for participants to sink tennis balls by way of hockey sticks and golf clubs. The tournament benefits the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf. Last year’s event drew a crowd of over 200 golfers and raised over $12,000 for the cause.

The tournament is prefaced by a community dance that also raises food shelf funds. Held at the White Bear Lake Country Inn the evening before the tournament, the dance features a live band and prize drawing, and lets participants and friends gear up for the big event. “It’s a great way for the community to come together,” says Ken Galloway founder of the BEAR’ly Open.
