Inspiration Performing Arts Center is celebrating its 10th season this year. Offering an uplifting space for students to be inspired by the arts, its focus is as creative as it is encouraging.

Katie Owings opened the center in 2006 because she felt compelled to start a studio that made a difference and offered a bigger impact on lives. “From the beginning,” Owings says, “I knew I wanted the studio to be a welcoming, safe and wholesome environment for children of all ages.”

One of the many areas and disciplines the center focuses on is dance, as it has always been deeply inspiring to Owings. Having danced competitively herself for many years, she has seen the pageantry side to dance and wanted a studio that reflected a more wholesome and age-appropriate approach. “We steer away from the fake eyelashes and exposed midriffs,” says Owings. “We lean to covering our students in beautiful and trendy costumes.”

In addition to dance classes, the wide-range performing arts center offers classes in art, acting, wellness and yoga. Inspiration also provides lessons in piano, guitar, voice, drums and violin.

And in pursuit of that bigger impact, this year, Owings founded Impact, a nonprofit service-oriented trip for dancers and artists to serve in Uganda, Haiti and Southeast Asia.
