It’s said that necessity is the mother of invention. So when Todd Kendall realized both he and his four-legged friend became thirsty while on walks, he designed a water container that’s dog friendly, hygienic and convenient. His design, called the Pawfect water bottle, is a three-part container. The top holds water for the person, the middle section holds treats and a dispenser for waste bags, and the bottom twists off to become the dog bowl.

“I’d take my dog, Ace, out for a walk and I would always have to bring a separate bowl along or pour water in my palm, or buy a product that has a bowl and folds down on the side,” says Kendall. But every time his dog stopped drinking, he would have to dump out all the water because putting it back in would contaminate the remaining water in the bottle.

This isn’t the first time Kendall put on his thinking cap: He also invented the Hit Zone air tee, which supports a tee ball on a cushion of air, making it easier for players to learn to hit.

“It’s fulfilling to make something out of nothing or to make something better,” says Kendall. “My biggest thrill was that, at one point, I was driving through a neighborhood and saw this kid swinging a ball off my air tee. I created that, and now this kid is having a good time practicing his swing. That was really gratifying to see.”

The Pawfect water bottle is currently being developed and will be sold on Kendall’s websites.
