White Bear Lake Scoops World Record Sundae

Members of the White Bear Lake community will attempt to set a new world record for the longest ice cream sundae in downtown White Bear Lake June 20. What does a world-record sundae look like? More than 1,000 feet of vanilla ice cream, cherries and strawberries, chocolate and caramel sauce and whipped cream—all topped with purple sprinkles in honor of cancer survivors. Supplies for the sundae were donated from shops of all sizes, including Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream in Madison, Wis., and nationally renowed Ghirardelli. Over 100 sponsors, including community groups, individuals and White Bear Lake companies, bought sections of the sundae for $100. All proceeds will go to the American Cancer Society, with the hope of raising $10,000. 800 volunteers will be in attendance to help set up the dish—and create the sundae. An ice cream truck will distribute ice cream to 115 stations, where the sponsors and volunteers will be ready to scoop. The sundae scooping will start at 7:30 p.m. and “will go pretty quick,” says John Lupo, president of Grandma’s Bakery. The event will take place during Marketfest and will be accompanied by local celebrities as well as a hay wagon stage. “The sundae is free for the general public to eat,” says Lupo. So get your spoons and come out in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life of the White Bear Lake Area.
