A Pint-sized Pup Hits the Big Screen in Insectula!

Tiny puppy Kip is no stranger to media. After receiving positive comments and “likes” on Facebook, Danielle Cézanne, program director at White Bear Center for the Arts, and Kip’s owner, had an idea. “We thought we should include him in a movie as a marketing strategy. What is worse than a tiny puppy about to be eaten by a monster?” The movie, Insectula! is a comedy/horror film where giant insects terrorize a town; it was produced by Cézanne and written, directed and shot by her husband, Mike Peterson.

Kip didn’t let stardom go to his furry head, as he played his role perfectly. “Kip’s role in the movie was to be his adorable self and get rescued by the military in downtown St. Paul,” says Cézanne. To film those 30 seconds on screen, Kip didn’t mess around. “He did really well and sat the way we wanted him to for the first take in front of a green screen.”

The movie was shown at the Mall of America, but will make its way to White Bear Lake soon, as much of the movie was filmed here.
