Camp Wahode Welcomes Kids with Autism
In August, kids with autism can learn more about the world around them at Camp Wahode, a weeklong daytime extravaganza held at Tamarack Nature Center. “Wahode,” which is Dakota for “explore,” perfectly describes the experience that includes nature walks, art projects, animals, music therapy and yoga for kids ages 8 to 13; there is one staff member assigned to every two children. “The kids get friendships, an experience with the outdoors, just fun,” says Terri Borowick, director of camp programs sponsored by the Autism Society of Minnesota.
