Every Halloween, little princesses, ghosts and superheroes flock to the nearest Kowalski’s Market. The annual Boo Bash at the 11 Twin Cities Kowalski’s Market locations offers a safe, spook–free environment for youngsters. Parents don’t have to worry about safety or their children receiving sugar-loaded candy. “It’s a safe way to trick-or-treat,” marketing director Laurie Bell says.
The first Boo Bash took place in Woodbury more than 15 years ago, and Kowalski’s went on to expand the event to all of its Twin Cities locations. Today, the tradition continues to be a fun community and family friendly event for everyone.
At the Boo Bash, children are given a bag at the greeter table if they don’t have one. A marked path around the store’s perimeter leads kids to decorated Halloween stations, where friendly employees dressed in costumes dole out healthy snacks and treats.
“The event is an alternative to all treats being just candy,” Bell says. Past options have included apples, mini carrot bags and cheese sticks. Kids also receive Halloween trinkets and a coloring book, and memories to savor. “We offer a picture–taking station,” Bell says.
Although attendance varies with location, the local market draws a large crowd. “About 400 to 600 kids come to the White Bear Lake location,” says Bell.
