Trunks and Treats

St. Stephen Lutheran Church hosts annual Halloween event.

The sixth annual Trunks ‘N’ Treats event at St. Stephen Lutheran Church will once again put a fun spin on trick-or-treating. On October 24 from 2 to 4 p.m., the parking lot will be filled with around 50 cars, sport utility vehicles and pickups, all with their trunks wide open and decorated in the spirit of Halloween. Kids of all ages are invited to “trunk or treat” from vehicle to vehicle. Judges will vote on the best-decorated trunk and there will be recognition for first-, second- and third-place winners.

Congregation members Cori and Bryan Farmer introduced their church to this idea from their previous church, and it has been a hit ever since. Participants love to park their cars and decorate them, dress up to match their trunk and hand out treats to the kids. Some trunks in past years have included a graveyard scene, pumpkin theme and even a pickup filled with leaves that someone jumps out of. “But not scary,” says Cori Farmer. “It’s just a fun thing.” In addition to live music, games, coloring and toy decorating, snacks and drinks will also be available.

You don’t have to be a church member to participate in this event; you can sign up through the church office and also online at ststephenwbl.org. Those who choose to participate by decorating a trunk are encouraged to come at 1:30 p.m. to prepare for the “trunk-or-treaters.”
