Orange you glad it’s summertime? We sure are! As Mother Nature puts on her cheerful best in your garden—perhaps in a row of tulips or a cloud of daffodils—we encourage you to bring some color indoors, too. This season’s design advice is brought to you by the color orange, a summery hue if ever there was one. We talked with design experts from local shops to learn about their favorite trendy orange items and their advice for adding a pop of seasonal citrus to your living spaces.
Table Lamp
Orange really is the way to go this season, says Upsy-Daisy’s Danielle Rode. It’s “a hot color making its way back from the ’70s,” she explains. But you don’t need to stick with ’70s shades (like rust). “Think about vibrant shades like tangerine, coral, sherbet or apricot,” advises Rode. If your style is a little whimsical, try an accent piece like this boho-chic lamp. The designers at Upsy-Daisy gave it a new life with a white-and-coral base and a shade covered in colorful fabric ribbons. $42. Upsy-Daisy
Paisley Pillows
A pair of down-filled pillows from Sweet Home, covered in an orange-and-cream paisley pattern, is an effortless update pretty much anywhere in your home. With little pops of brown and pink, they’ll tie in easily with the rest of your décor. Set of two, $12. Sweet Home
Patterned Rug
Add a sunburst of color to an unexpected area: the floor. A plush hand-hooked rug from Christina Lynn Interiors has an earthy orange background and a transitional pattern. “I’d use this rug to add a splash of color to your kitchen, or a front or back entry,” says Christina Miller, interior designer and owner of Christina Lynn Interiors. The bonus? The rug is outdoor-safe, so try it on a porch or deck for a bright welcome. $58. Christina Lynn Interiors
Vase
For an effortless update to a neutral room, add a citrus-hued ceramic vase, says Miller. “I would use it on a kitchen island, on a tray with an arrangement of candles, or on a mantle.” $28. Christina Lynn Interiors
Framed Print
“For this wall décor, we used vintage orange-and-white wallpaper in a damask print with a vintage frame painted turquoise,” says Rode. For a dramatic pop, hang this cheery print on its own or use it as part of a tableau with family photographs or mirrors. $32. Upsy-Daisy
Vintage Quilt
For a true one-of-a-kind accent, snap up this citrusy vintage quilt. “It’s orange and cream with some deep mustard yellows,” says Sweet Home’s Charity McClung. “It would be awesome as a picnic blanket, on someone’s bed or in a sunroom.” The triangular fringe adds a touch of whimsy. $30. Sweet Home
Throw Pillow
This perky pillow boasts a modern geometric pattern, perfect for freshening up a sofa or even a small space like an entryway bench. $32. Christina Lynn Interiors
Footstool
A bright ottoman is an easy—and supremely comfy—way to add a pop of color to your living room. Upsy-Daisy’s team of vintage “upcyclers” took a simple stool with a mid-century design and added a bright paisley slipcover bursting with pinks, oranges and turquoise. “It’s perfect for adding comfort and color to a living space,” says Rode. $42.
