In the March issue we're celebrating the heart of the home as Preferred Kitchens opens an inspiration-filled showroom.

The railroad played a significant role in the development of White Bear and the surrounding area. When the Lake Superior & Mississippi Railroad opened its line through White Bear in September 1868, access to the lake area was greatly enhanced.

 

Hollihan’s Pub in downtown White Bear Lake has become an institution over the years, as it’s one of the oldest bars in town. And with its Irish roots, it’s the perfect place to grab a pint on St. Patrick’s Day.

 

The church, in addition to opening their bread oven to the community each month, conducts classes on several types of bread from challah to whole wheat with currants and walnuts.

 

The Hazelden Betty Ford Foundation, one of the world’s foremost addiction treatment providers, began in Center City, Minn., and is still headquartered there.

 

For the past 31 years, Preferred Kitchens has provided families in White Bear Lake and surrounding areas with kitchen, bath and home improvement makeovers.

 

Writers always seem to do their best work when they have inspiring subjects.

Although it’s undoubtedly a sports photo, Neal Burke’s NHL Prospect isn’t your typical action shot. Featuring a young hockey player partially shrouded in shadow, Burke’s stunning play of shadow and light made this close-up portrait especially memorable.

 

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the White Bear Area Emergency Food Shelf. Since 1977, the organization has been a cornerstone of the community and a critical resource for individuals and families in need.

 

Anastasia Eldredge has what some may consider a difficult task—making teenagers love math. But the Mahtomedi High School teacher not only does it, but does it really, really well. “I was born to be a teacher,” Eldredge says.

 

Since 1990, Chuck & Don’s Pet Food & Supplies has been a perfect one-stop shop for pet products.

 

Wooden décor is on trend right now, as Al and Katie Cooley, owners of Create Space, are well aware. They opened the DIY studio in Vadnais Heights in October—a new venture that perfectly combines their respective interests and hobbies.
