In 1890, School District 69 of Mahtomedi was formed. The spring term of 1890 was its first session and was held in the back of E.T. Warner’s store until a more permanent location could be found. The first structure was completed along Quail Street in time for the fall session of 1891.

It might seem that fashion shows are reserved for cosmopolitan cities such as New York, Paris or Milan, but White Bear Lake has its own slice of first-class fashion, thanks to Tyler Conrad and Kim Schoonover.

The Ramsey County Fair began with high expectations in August 1913 on the present site of Central Middle School. For a $2 membership, attendees received a pass, which allowed entering and leaving the fairgrounds throughout the four-day event.

While White Bear is known as Minnesota’s first resort town, Mahtomedi had its hand in the tourism trade quite early as well. The area was platted in 1883, and summer visitors began to arrive as early as May each season to take advantage of the cooling lake breezes and the relaxed atmosphere.

Folks took to the White Bear Country Inn for an evening of merriment to raise funds for Lakeshore Players Theatre.

Asked why a golf tournament was chosen for the annual fundraiser, Nancy Roth of the White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation (WBLAEF) says, “Golf is very popular around the area, so it seemed to be a good idea.” Proof she was on to something
