The White Bear Center for the Arts (WBCA) is a place where creatives can collide and share their artistic talents. A teacher and student who are active at WBCA share what they love about it.
Art-lover Paula DeZellar began taking classes at WBCA seven years ago after she became an empty nester. She started off taking a beginners watercolor class and now is enrolled in a weekly intermediate/advanced watercolor class. Through these sessions she has learned about her own art style, received critiques on her work and learned new techniques. Although watercolor is her strength, she has also dabbled in mixed media, drawing and acrylic painting.
“WBCA is a community gem. It offers welcoming classes for everyone, promotes the value of art, encourages new friendships and provides contact with artists from around the country. Can you tell I love the WBCA? I do and so do many, many others,” DeZellar says.
Frank Zeller has been involved with WBCA for the last 50 years. He has been a board member, president and Northern Lights exhibition chair. Zeller teaches watercolor classes in many different styles. “[With each style], I’m teaching a different aspect of design. I teach how to see and how to organize thoughts into paintings,” he says.
“I believe the WBCA is a place that fosters sharing artistic gifts/talent, with one another. It is a place where like-minded people can feel safe in creating their craft, develop old and new friendships and feel comfortable in what they are doing,” says Zeller.
