In the January issue we're checking in with two local winter warriors who excel at winter sports.

The town of White Bear was formed in 1858, as Minnesota became a state. The village of White Bear was incorporated out of the town in 1881, and within just a few years, both had formed a Board of Health.

According to Saint Paul Winter Carnival history, the event began as an answer by St. Paul business and civic leaders to an affront by East Coast newspaper writers in 1886 that deemed Minnesota an inhospitable place to live.

Sports are an integral part of growing up, and for kids in the Vadnais Heights and White Bear Lake area, that’s no different.
