While White Bear is known as Minnesota’s first resort town, Mahtomedi had its hand in the tourism trade quite early as well. The area was platted in 1883, and summer visitors began to arrive as early as May each season to take advantage of the cooling lake breezes and the relaxed atmosphere.

 

Spice may be nice, but spicy is naughty, and that’s much more fun. Besides, Minnesotans aren’t always as nice as everyone says we are. We may have a reputation for preferring bland food, but we can bring the heat with the best of ’em and enjoy it, too.

 

Folks took to the White Bear Country Inn for an evening of merriment to raise funds for Lakeshore Players Theatre.

 

Asked why a golf tournament was chosen for the annual fundraiser, Nancy Roth of the White Bear Lake Area Educational Foundation (WBLAEF) says, “Golf is very popular around the area, so it seemed to be a good idea.” Proof she was on to something

Carol Huso’s Mahtomedi home, built in 1995, has been through a lot. Huso, an interior designer, and her husband raised three sons, now 27, 24 and 21, in the home and didn’t have much time, or the money, to make updates.

 

Pets are as much a part of the family as anyone else. St.

 

Just constructed in 2014, the boardwalk has transformed the lakefront of White Bear from boating marina to an area that everyone can enjoy. The property where the boardwalk now stands used to be the site of Johnson Boatworks, and was bought by the city in 1999.

 

This year, the Wildwood Lions will be celebrating 17 years of involving the community to help the blind with their annual White Cane Days.
